Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery performed in the United States. This is not a weight reduction procedure, but rather one that removes bulging areas of fat that accumulate on various parts of our bodies. Diet and exercise programs, in some people, are seldom helpful in reducing fat effectively from these bothersome areas.

Utilizing the latest Tumescent Technique, the fat is removed by surgical suction through small strategically-placed incisions measuring 1/2" in length. Once the fat cells are removed from these areas, they seldom reoccur, even with weight gain. Bulges of fat most commonly removed are found: under the chin and jaw line, arm pit region and upper arm, abdomen, waist, back and flanks, hips, buttocks, thighs and knees. Liposuction of the abdomen, waist and flanks are commonly performed in men.

There is minimal risk when this remarkable method of body contouring is performed by a skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeon. This 1-1/2 hour procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Patients experience minimal to moderate discomfort for only a day or two before returning to work usually in 2-3 days. A contour garment is worn for two weeks and early exercise is recommended. 80% of the swelling subsides within the first 8 weeks with the remainder over the next few months. Patients are presentable within 2 weeks as the bruising disappears. The results are usually very dramatic, especially for those who have tried for years to reduce fatty areas with weight loss and exercise.
