Cosmetic Surgery FAQ's
Is Cosmetic Surgery for Me?
- How soon after surgery can I go back to work?
Depending on the operation you are having, you can return to work within three to ten days.
- How soon after the surgery can I resume normal activities?
That is variable depending on the operation and can range anywhere from one to four weeks.
- How much will the surgery cost?
The cost of your procedure will depend on the procedure and will be determined at your private consultation with Dr. Johnson.
- Will my insurance cover the surgery?
Insurance companies will not reimburse patients for cosmetic surgery and hence, payment for surgery is required two weeks prior to surgery. Credit card (Visa and Mastercard) financing is available. Costs of cosmetic surgery may qualify for deduction on income tax returns.
- Will I be under any anesthesia and will there be pain?
Surgery is performed with intravenous sedation and infiltration of a local anesthetic. This is not a general anesthetic. With this technique, patients feel no pain and minimal discomfort. Occasionally, only a local anesthetic is required.
- What risks and complications are involved with cosmetic surgery?
The risks and complications are very minimal. Should complications arise, they may include infection, bleeding, increased scarring, permanent nerve damage or partial loss of sensation.
- Will there be any scarring, and if so, where?
Scarring is minimal and most scars will fall within a skin crease.
- What is the post-operative care and when do I need to return to the office?
Dr. Johnson will want to see you within the first three to seven days after your surgery and will determine then how often he would like to see you thereafter. There is no charge for follow-up visits or before and after photographs.
Cosmetic surgery is a medical discipline in which a graduate surgeon who, already board-certified in his/her primary specialty, chooses to develop cosmetic surgery skills through post-graduate training.
- How is the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery different from American Board of Plastic Surgery?
Board certification in plastic and reconstructive surgery doesn't necessarily equate with experience in cosmetic surgery. The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery is the only board that certifies exclusively for expertise in cosmetic surgery. You may obtain Certification Requirements of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery from their headquarters for specific ABCS requirements.
