Mammoplasty
Breast Enlargement in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Breast enlargement, also called Augmentation Mammoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in our country. Women with small, underdeveloped or asymmetrical breasts can benefit from this procedure. Often times, women flowing pregnancy lose the breast tissue they once had, and therefore are ideal candidates for replacement with breast implants. The implants are usually placed under the chest muscle through a small incision in the natural crease below the breast. If a woman's breasts are somewhat saggy from previous pregnancies, the implants are placed above the chest muscle. If women become pregnant, they can still nurse. The new saline implants are a safe alternative to the silicone gel implants, which are still available to those who have had previous silicone gel implants and wish to have them replaced. This surgical procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Patients experience no pain or discomfort over the 1-hour surgical procedure. Size is determined by the amount of breast tissue present and the dimensions of the chest wall. Patients usually request the largest implant that looks normal and natural, or simply replace the tissue lost through pregnancy.
Since the surgical incisions are placed within a natural crease under the breast, the resulting scar is minimal in appearance. Patients are back to work within 3 days with limited activity. The risks are minimal. All routine activity is resumed within 3-4 weeks. Patients tell me their breasts usually feel normal and natural within 3-6 months.
