Everything You Need to Know About Your Cosmetic Surgery
LIPOSUCTION - FACE, NECK, AND BODY
Liposuction surgery for men and women can improve the contours of their bodies through a relatively simple and safe technique. This procedure removes fat cells. It may be used alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift or "tummy tuck." Those who have specific areas of localized fat deposits and who have tried unsuccessfully to eliminate them through diet, exercise and weight loss should consider liposuction.

This procedure also works well for a double chin, saggy jowls or an overly round face. Fat deposits due to heredity or natural aging are usually resistant to exercise and weight loss and, until recently, could not be altered.

Liposuction is generally performed in a surgeon's office operating room or an outpatient facility. The procedure can be performed using local anesthesia and sedation. If the intent is to suction a large area or treat several sites, liposuction is usually done under local anesthesia and deeper I.V. sedation.

This powerful cosmetic surgery technique enables surgeons the freedom to go beyond surface skin removal and recontour the body without leaving significant scars. The results are excellent and patient satisfaction is high.

Excellent results can be achieved on the neck and under the chin, particularly in patients with good skin elasticity. Recovery time is fast, making this a common site for suction lipectomy. Incisions are made on either side of the jaw and sometimes under the chin. For chubby cheeks, incisions are made at the temples, below the earlobes, or just inside the nostrils.

Liposuction may be used alone on the chin or cheeks, but more commonly it is performed in conjunction with a facelift on patients 45 and over. Liposuction allows the surgeon to create a smoother, cleaner contour than could be done by simply removing excess skin. It also may reduce the number of incisions needed and therefore the number of scars.

Fat suction can also be done in conjunction with a tummy tuck. However, for individuals with firm skin and excess fat below the navel, liposuction may be all that's needed. Incisions are made around the navel or just above the pubic triangle. This procedure can also be used to reduce a "spare tire" or eliminate the "love handles" that many men develop above their hips. "Saddlebags" as well as indentations just below the hips, are common reasons for performing suction lipectomy, especially in women. The crease just under the buttocks is another area that people often wish to have suctioned.

"Liposuction did it for me! My pant size changed from size 14 to 10 - even some 8's. My boyfriend's impressed!"

AFTER SURGERY IS COMPLETED
Moderate to little discomfort should ease after one or two days, but for three to four days after surgery the area will remain stiff and sore. If you had liposuction on the thighs, buttocks, or hips, you may be uncomfortable for several days when sitting, standing, and lying down. In most cases you should be able to return to work within a few days. Begin walking as soon as possible. Don't sit still with your feet hanging down. It allows fluid to collect, increasing the chances of a clot.

A snug-fitting garment is worn for seven to ten days depending upon the extent of the surgery and the individual's healing process. Because liposuction surgery does not involve large incisions and extensive cutting, pain is minimal to moderate and is controlled with oral medication. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection. Brief daily showers or baths with lukewarm water are permissible.

The results of fat suctioning are permanent. It is still possible to gain weight again in the suctioned areas, but these areas will remain proportionally smaller than they were previously. Remember, once the fat cells are removed, they will never reoccur.

Liposuction is usually a permanent fix, as long as you don't gain a lot of weight. Typically, those who gain only a few pounds find that fat does not return to the areas where they had liposuction. That's because liposuction often removes the unwanted fat cells from the genetic fat deposits and subsequently resists weight gain.

"Now my lower body matches my top. Liposuction with you did it all."

"My love handles are gone now. Thank you so much."
