MOST OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS
What Happens at my First Consultation?
Prior to seeing Dr. Johnson, you will be asked to complete a "New Patient" questionnaire. Dr. Johnson will then listen to your concerns, examine you, and thoroughly discuss all aspects of your surgery including the procedure, anesthesia, recovery time, pre- and post-operative care, and possible risks and complications. He will also discuss any questions you may have regarding your return to work, the cost of your surgery, and method of payment. Dr. Johnson will request a copy of your most recent physical exam performed within the past year. Arrangements can be made for you to review videotapes, diagrams and photographs and to consult with patients who have recently undergone the same procedure.
What's the Next Step after I decide to have surgery?
Dr. Johnson and his staff will assist you in scheduling your surgery. An "informed consent", detailing risks and complications, must be thoroughly read and understood, as well as signed, prior to surgery. After the date is confirmed, any remaining instructions, including post-operative care and medication, will be provided by his staff.
What happens the Day of Surgery?
At the Johnson Cosmetic Surgery Center, prior to surgery, Dr. Johnson will take photographs and offer an opportunity for you to ask any further questions. Following surgery, you will be discharged, accompanied by another person with post-operative instructions and necessary prescriptions. Cosmetic surgery as a rule requires minimal pain medication. Post-operative pictures for your records will be taken at a later date, and a return visit for dressing change and suture removal will be scheduled accordingly.
What is the post-operative care, and when do I need to return to the office?
Dr. Johnson will want to see you soon after your surgery, and will then determine how often he would like to see you.
Will I be under any anesthesia and will there be pain?
Surgery is performed with intravenous sedation and infiltration of a local anesthetic. This is not a general anesthetic. With this technique, patients feel no pain and minimal discomfort. Occasionally, only a local anesthetic is required.
How much does cosmetic surgery cost?
Your initial consultation is free. Actual total costs including anestesia, facility charge, and surgical fees usually range between 4,000 and 12,000 dollars depeding
on procedure(s) of your choice. Customarily, pre-payment is required two weeks prior to the day of surgery.
Will my insurance cover the surgery?
Insurance companies will not reimburse patients for cosmetic surgery and hence, payment for surgery is required two weeks prior to surgery. Credit card financing is available. A $600.00 penalty will be assessed for unmerited cancellations if we are not notified at least five business days prior to surgery.
How soon after the surgery can I resume normal activities?
That is variable depending on the operation, and can range anywhere from one to four weeks.
How soon after surgery can I go back to work?
Depending on the operation you are having, you can return to work within three to ten days.
