Abdominoplasty
Tummy Tuck Minneapolis, Minnesota

Tummy-tuck, or abdominoplasty, is surgery performed to remove excess skin and fat that has accumulated over the lower abdomen. It is frequently associated with multiple pregnancies, weight gain or substantial weight loss. Often times in women with multiple pregnancies, there is separation of the abdominal muscles and accumulation of fatty tissue, which adds to the protrusion of the lower abdominal region. This frequently impairs normal body function and becomes unsightly. In most men and women, exercise and weight loss will not correct the problem. There are usually three steps involved in this three-hour procedure. The first step involves liposuction of the fatty abdominal wall, waist and flanks. The second step requires a low horizontal incision that allows exposure of the abdominal muscles so they can be tightened with permanent sutures. The third step involves the removal of all the bulky skin and fatty tissue that has accumulated in the lower abdominal region. The umbilicus or "belly button" is relocated to a normal position on the abdominal wall. The risks are minimal when performed by a skilled and experienced cosmetic surgeon. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis utilizing local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. The patient feels no pain during the three-hour procedure and is sent home shortly thereafter, spending one week resting in bed with minimal to moderate discomfort. An abdominal binder is worn for several weeks for support. After one month there are no restrictions. Swelling numbness and tightness diminishes over the healing period. The resulting scar is well hidden by underwear and its appearance is outweighed by the emotional and cosmetic benefits of the surgery. Women's pants are often reduced one to two sizes when the swelling subsides.
Arm lifts are also performed in our Surgery Center on an outpatient basis with minimal risk and discomfort.
